A Data Center is a dedicated space within a building, used to house computer systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems. Since IT operations are essential for business continuity, it generally includes backup components and infrastructure for power supply, data communication connections, environmental controls (i.e. air conditioning, fire suppression) and various security devices.
These data centers are critical for web hosting companies and serve several purposes in helping to maintain and manage our customer website data, a couple of main reasons being:
- Our customers content is stored at data centers instead of being stored on the company campus, to help with security.
- We use multiple data centers for redundancy, and added layers of protection for our customers content. With multiple data centers available if one of them was to go down for any reason, only a small portion of customers would be affected, versus all of our servers being compromised.
