Our cPanels at Create come with a easy one click instillation of Wordpress! This makes getting started building your new website even faster and more convenient. In this article we will cover both the recommended cPanel Softaculous install, and the manual installation as well.
Softaculous Install
1. Log into cPanel and scroll down section titled SOFTACULOUS APPS INSTALLER and click on the Wordpress icon.
2. Under the Software Setup section, select the domain name that you would like to use for your Wordpress install in the drop-down tab.
3. At the bottom of the page, after you have entered all required fields, Click Install
4. The installation should only take a few seconds and give you a confirmation message once it has been installed.
The Softaculous installer is very easy to use and you should have your Wordpress site installed very quickly. As long as your domain name is pointed to Create.com nameservers, you should be able to see your new Wordpress site at the domain you provided to the Softaculous Installer.
Manual Install
1. The first thing to do is to get a copy of Wordpress that you want to install. if you do not have a copy you can go to https://wordpress.org/download/ to download the latest version of Wordpress to your computer.
2. Now that you have a copy of Wordpress, you will need to log into your cPanel to upload the file. Once you are in cPanel, go to the bar that reads FILES and click on the icon that reads File Manager.
3.. The page that loads up will contain two sections: one to the left and one to the right. The section to the left will let you go through your folders in a quicker search. You will need to locate the website folder where you want to upload the Wordpress file that you have. If you are looking for the primary domain folder, that would be named public_html by default.
Now that you have located the folder where you want to upload Wordpress, click on the Upload button on the tool bar in the page.
You will be taken to a page with an option to drop the files in the box or a Select File button that will allow you to upload the Wordpress file. Then it will start the download and it make take a few minutes depending on how large the file is.
4. Now that the upload has finished, click on the Go Back to link to get back to the folder where you uploaded Wordpress. The file should be shown on the right hand side. You will now have to extract the files. You can right click on the file and click Extract or Extract File(s)
Navigate to the folder called wordpress. Once in that folder, you will see all the folders and files for a default Wordpress install. Select all of them and click on Copy or right click and click on copy. This will give you a pop up asking where you would like to copy the files/folders.
If you are installing the Wordpress install to your primary domain the path should be /public_html/
Next click on the button Copy File(s).
5. Go back to the cPanel home page. We will now need to create a database for the Wordpress install to function properly. Scroll down until you get to the bar that reads DATABASE and click on the icon MySQL® Databases.
The page will load up with options to create your database for Wordpress. Click on the button Create New Database, and then fill in a name for the new database that you are creating. Then you will scroll down to create a MYSQL User to connect to the database that you just created. The final step will be to scroll down more to Add User To Database to connect the user to the database and select the option to add ALL PRIVILEGES and click on the Save Changes.
7. Now that you have set up a database and user for Wordpress, you will need to go back to your website folder to set up a wp-config.php file so that the Wordpress install can read the database that you just created. In the contents of the your website, look for a file that is named wp-config-sample.php and make a copy that is named wp-config.php in the same folder. Right click on the new file wp-config.php and click Edit. This will open another page that will have the content of the file. In that page, go to the section that has the MySQL settings and replace the information there with the new database and user that you have created.
8. Now we have to set up the Wordpress configurations for the database, the best way to do so is to go to domain.tld/wp-admin/install.php ( change domain.tld with your website name). Once you are on your website page, it will ask you to select a language (by default it will be English (United States)) that you want your to select for your website. The next page will ask for you to enter information for the account then click on the Install Wordpress button. That will take you to a log in page for your Wordpress. Now you are finished installing Wordpress!
Again, if any of these steps seems complicated, we highly recommending trying the one-click Softaculous Apps Installer to install Wordpress.
