FileZilla is a third-party file transfer protocol (FTP) that helps you to move, upload, download, or delete files from your cPanel. In this article, we will show you how to download this program and how to use it.
The first step is to go to this link: FileZilla to download the program. On that page you will need to click on Download FileZilla Client.
Once you have downloaded the file you will just need to run it and it open up like the image below. The main information you will need to enter is at the top: host, username, password and port.
You can either use your cPanel credentials to gain full access to your files and folders, or you can set up an FTP account to gain access to a specific website or folder. To create an FTP account, feel free to check out this article: FTP Accounts.
- Host: In this box you will enter in the server name or the cPanel IP. Both can be found in your cPanel
- Username: FTP username or cPanel username
- Password: password for the cPanel user or FTP account
- Port: 21
Once you have entered the correct information, a popup will appear talking about the server certificate like the image below. This just means that FileZilla could not identify the SSL of the server even though SSL is installed for the domain. You can safely ignore this message, as this is a common error that you will get the first time you connect to FileZilla. You will just need to click OK and this message will not appear the next time you use FileZilla.
The image below shows an example of a successful connection. The Remote site section now contains folders that are from the server, and the Local site section shows files on your home computer. This allows you upload and download any files or folders that you want.
